Sundays with Anthem
Join us on Sundays for a time of worship through singing, teaching, prayer, and more! Here are the different way we'll gather together:
Arcturus and Livestream gatherings will meet at 9:30 AM. We'll have family time around 10AM both under the tent and over zoom for anyone at joining from home for a time to see one another and say hi. We'll close out our time Sunday morning by taking communion together.
We're excited to be with you this week!
Family Time Zoom
Meeting ID: 842 2215 6784
We will gather at
2p | 3:30p | 5p
We look forward to having you with us for one of these three gatherings. Come as you are...you're part of a generation of families that's gathering together to celebrate! We will sing, enjoy some yummy treats, take some pictures and hear about Jesus our Savior and King. Would you let us know what time you are planning on coming? We want to make sure we have a seat ready for you!
Christmas Eve Volunteers Needed
We still have several holes that need to filled to help make each of our Christmas Eve gatherings a success this year. There are two ways that you can jump in and help make the day awesome:
We are looking for bakers! We need about 15-20 people to make finger desserts (no cake or pies please). Each person would need to bring 2 dozen of your favorite holiday treats. Use the link below to sign up! If you have any questions, contact Barbara Grant Gould.
Serve at a Gathering
We are also looking for greeters, coffee makers, dessert host, and more, all with smiling faces! If you are available to help, follow the link below to sign up. If you have any questions, contact Celeste Scott.
Anthem Anywhere is a Sunday where the body of Christ at the Anthem family of churches will be gathering in homes, parks, coffee shops, breweries, and a variety of other venues around Ventura County and beyond, to worship Jesus, study the Scriptures, take communion, and pray together.
We are excited to take a Sunday and specifically remind ourselves that “the church” is not a building or an event, but a gathered group of believers in Jesus Christ.
Follow the links below to either register your group or to join a group that Sunday.
Date: THIS SUNDAY, January 26th
Anthem Kids Connect
We're excited to continue with Anthem Kids Connect this week. Our hope for this time is to provide kids with opportunities to connect with each other and some of their Anthem Kids leaders. We'll catch up with each other, pray, learn about Jesus and enjoy some other fun things during our gathering together.
Each week we'll send an email to parents with a prompt and info on how to prepare for the time together. If you have any questions, email email@example.com.

Save the Date
Save the date for our Anthem Summit coming May 1-2, 2020! Anthem's annual discipleship conference is designed for us to equip and empower each other in focused areas of Kingdom Life. Anthem Summit is a moment for our family of churches to unite around the vision and mission God has given us and for the body to equip each other for life and ministry.
Date: May 1-2, 2020
Easter has served as an opportunity for the last few years for us to share the Gospel with people in our community that don’t know Jesus or have disconnected from a Jesus story. As our new context has taken shape, we have been working through what we can do to bring Jesus into the lives of people that don’t know him. On Sunday, April 12 we will be hosting 4 online gatherings (each showing the same worship/teaching) that will feature a chat element. Those chats will be hosted by the teams that have been preparing to lead locations in our “pop up church” Easter plan. Our dream for Easter is that you would reach out to people in your neighborhood/network inviting them to hear the Gospel and hopefully to begin a relationship with Jesus!
We are providing 2 resources to help you do that. First, we have a digital invite that you can use to invite people via social media/email/evite/etc. You can go on our website or app to download a copy of this digital invite and share it as often as you want!
The second resource is a poster that you can use on/around your home as an invitation to your neighborhood. With the volume of neighborhood walks increasing by 6000% (anecdotal estimate), the opportunity to present a passive invitation is significant! The poster will be great for a window, a parked car, a fence, a tree… something in your yard that would engage passers by. Posters will be available for pick-up at the U (the Anthem Kids building) after our Sunday livestream this week.
Easter is an amazing opportunity to engage people that don’t know Jesus, we want to create avenues for those in our communities that are hurting and searching to meet Jesus and connect with his church. Take some time to pray through who you can reach out to and how you can engage people with the Gospel this Easter!
We need each other. We are built for community. We are called to love our neighbors as ourselves. Even though the world has changed rapidly, the mandate of the church has not. We are setting out to be a church that bears each other burdens and loves well during this time so no one goes unnoticed. We hope to see you and your family connected and growing in these uncertain times.
We've loved hearing you share your story of how Jesus has changed your life. To see all of these 1-minute videos, check out our instagram @anthemthousandoaks !
ASM at 11am
Sundays at 11am, students 6th-9th start in the main gathering and are dismissed after the first set of music to follow the ASM staff to the Anthem offices for a time of discussion / bible study based on the same passage being taught in the main gathering, but designed especially for middle school students.

Christmas with Anthem
Merry Christmas Anthem Church! We are so excited to bring our community together for two gatherings (outdoors & online) on Thursday, December 24th at 4 and 6 PM. There’s a line from “O Holy Night” that says, “A weary world rejoices...”. That line pings many of our hearts as we have both felt the weariness of the world, yet we rejoice in the salvation that has come through Jesus Christ. Our hope is to provide a safe place for our community to explore the peace and joy that Jesus Christ brings into our lives as we give ourselves completely to him.
Giving cheerfully and sacrificially is a part of worship at Anthem. We give generously because God has first been generous to us.
At this time of year, many people are interested in making a “year end gift” to the church. Because we desire to be fully accountable for how we steward finances, and to be in compliance with the IRS, here are the deadlines for giving to be counted as donated in 2020.
Thank you to everyone who has expressed their worship of God by contributing financially to Anthem Church. If you are interested in making an online donation, please do that here: anthemchurch.org/give.
- One time donation: Must be submitted before midnight on December 31st.
- Recurring donations will be processed on their scheduled date and reported in the year the gift is deducted from your bank account.
Give Via Check or Cash
- Envelopes must be postmarked by December 31, 2020
- Handed in: Must be physically delivered on or by Thursday, December 31, 2020. We're sorry, but checks that are handed in after that point, even if it's back-dated to 12/31 or earlier, will be applied to your 2021 statement.
We will start our values series called This Is Anthem on Sunday. We'll spend the next 10 weeks walking through the different values and will share how they enable our up, in, & out approach to life with Jesus. This week we will begin with the Gospel.
Hope you are able to join us in person or online!

Worship + Tech Teams
This past year our tech needs as a church have grown exponentially with live-streaming and setting up weekly in the tent. While our needs have doubled, this team has numerically remained the same. We are looking for people who are willing to be trained to join the team. This Sunday we will have a lunch and training session following our morning gathering.
If you are interested in helping or learning more, email Rob at email@example.com to RSVP. NO experience necessary!
When: Sunday, February 28th directly following the gathering (lunch provided)
Where: Under the Anthem Tent
sunday toddler zone
The Toddler Zone will begin this Sunday! We will have an enclosed area adjacent to the tent for 0-3 year olds to get their energy out and play with toys while allowing parents to stay engaged during the gathering. At this time it won’t be the typical drop off, but we are asking parents to stay with their kids.
If you have any questions feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org. We can’t wait to gather with you all on Sunday!
Community Serve week
The week following Easter we are engaging our city and neighborhoods with tangible displays of God’s love and compassion. Check out this video from Rob to hear more about one of the locations we will be serving: Gabriel's House.

If you have any questions, contact email@example.com.

As a supplement to our series called This Is Anthem, we wanted to share brief conversations about how we can tangibly live out the presence of Jesus in our lives. This week, Matt spends time talking with Adam Schaechterle about fasting and hearing God's voice. We hope you enjoy it!
We'll be posting the episodes on our podcast feed called, Anthem Thousand Oaks: Everything Else. To get these episodes delivered automatically, be sure to subscribe.
Join us at 9 or 11am for our Easter Sunday gatherings. We will be gathering family style under the tent and online. We'll have kids bags available as well as the toddler zone for kids preschool and under.

One of the biggest joys we have as a church is seeing parents choose to commit to raising their children in a way that points them to their loving Savior Jesus, and helping them find their way back to God in their homes.
Our next child dedication is scheduled for May 2nd. If you are interested in dedicating your kid(s) or want to know more about how child dedications at Anthem, click on the links below and let us know by Apr 28th.

Ak sunday breakout:
Hello Anthem Families and welcome to the Kids Breakout! This Sunday will be our first gathering and I wanted to share a bit about what we will be teaching and doing during our time together. One big change is that kids and our team of amazing volunteers will be learning and going through the same scripture that the adults are each Sunday. The hope is that you as a family will be able to have conversations and engage with the same bible passages each week and that when the kids are in service they can continue their learning of the book John with us all! Each week that the Kids Breakout meets, we will have worship, a Bible lesson, snack, and an activity or craft. I also wanted to include a list of amazing resources that might further supplement our study of John and the life of Jesus! Always feel free to reach out with any questions, needs, or suggestions!
Bible study methods class
Our Bible Study Methods class is starting next week! Reading the bible is a major part of being part of the church, but sometimes it can be hard to understand or we feel like we hit a plateau in our understanding. If you would like to learn how to get more out of your bible reading, or if you would like some practices to help understand the bible better then this class is for you. Steve Larson will be teaching a 4-week class that will run weekly on Thursday evenings starting April 29th at 7pm.
We will meet at the Anthem office with up to 20 people. If we have more, we will meet it in the chapel.
If you have any questions, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
This Sunday (May 2nd) will be our last Family Meeting for the summer season. We'll spend time talking and praying through how we can be more missional together as a church on Sundays and beyond. We'll also give updates on what this next season will look like for us as church family as our state re-opens and steps into a new phase of "normal".
We'd love to have everyone who calls Anthem home to join us over zoom at 2:30PM or under the tent at 4PM. Please RSVP and let us know when you are joining us.
Looking forward to reflecting, dreaming and praying with you all!
Date: Sun, May 2nd

Hope to see you then!

A note from Susie Brown:
Hi Anthem Families,
As we prepare to worship on Sunday, here are some ways to help your children actively participate. Encourage them to stand and sing, bow their heads in prayer, give to the offering, and pay attention to the sermon. Here are a few ideas to help engage kids with the message:
- Have kids bring their own Bible and help them find the Scripture passage being taught.
- Older kids can be encouraged to take notes. We will be in Ephesians 2:11-22 this week if they would like to read ahead. You could provide them with a special notebook that they could bring each Sunday. They could decorate it to make it special.
- Younger kids can draw pictures related to the sermon.
- After the service, ask them three questions drawn from the sermon. You could discuss the words that they listened for, or the pictures they drew.
And of course, affirm your children for their participation and let them know how much you enjoy worshipping alongside them! It’s a joy and a blessing to hear what God speaks to children!
To God be the Glory!
We are gathering family-style in the parking lot at Arcturus (the chapel). We'll remain socially distanced and will mask up when distance is not accessible. The gathering will last about an hour & a half; bring a chair, shade, and a sweater as the weather cools off. We'll have kids activity bags available for your little ones after spending time singing together.
Click below for all details on how to best prepare for the gathering.
We will livestream our Arcturus Gathering at 9:30am. Join us from wherever you are to worship, open the Scriptures, and be stirred toward actions and a deeper life with God.
We'll take communion together at the end of our gathering, have your elements ready to respond in worshipping the Lord together.
The book of John is written so that everyone who reads it would believe that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), the Son of God. As we study this amazing book together, we hope to grow in our understanding of Jesus’ life, teaching, death and resurrection so that we can live as his disciples. He is the way, the truth and the life... so we look to him to know how we should live!
Some ideas and resources for our time in the gospel of John:
- Read through the gospel of John in one sitting (approx. 2 hrs)
- Use a scripture journal as we walk through the book together; we'll have copies of this journal on Sunday at the welcome table if you would like to grab one.

Do you ever get the feeling that when you read the Bible, you're not feeling what you're "supposed" to be feeling, or getting out of it what you think you're "supposed" to be getting out of it? Reading the Bible is a major part of being part of the church, but sometimes it can be hard to understand or we feel like we hit a plateau in our understanding. If you would like to learn how to get more out of your Bible reading, or if you would like some practices to help understand the Bible better then this class is for you.
Lead: Ahmad Milby
Cost: $10-$15 for the book (Living by the Book)
Meeting Details: This class will only run for 4-weeks on Mondays at 7-9PM starting July 5th and will meet at the Anthem TO office.
Jul 6 - Aug 3
Tuesdays @ 7pm
No matter what your workplace context looks like, you have a unique opportunity to bring the hope of Jesus into your organization, your team, or your customers. While there are some common principles of living your work life in a missional way regardless of your job, there are some unique opportunities and challenges depending on your role, and we want to help equip you for whatever role you're in.
The format of this class will look a little different. The first week, we'll host a night that is relevant to all people in the workplace. While everyone would be expected to join the first week and welcome to attend all other weeks as well, we anticipate that you'll come to week 1, and likely only one of the remaining weeks. While there will be someone sharing their story, sharing best practices, etc., we really see the true value in these nights being in the conversations and Q&A time after the start of the nights!
Week 2 - Bringing Jesus to Your Organization
Week 3 - Bringing Jesus to Your Team or Co-Workers
Week 4 - Bringing Jesus to Your Customers or Clients
Week 5 - Bringing Jesus to Your School
Lead: Caleb Womack + others
Meeting Details: This class will meet on Tuesdays at 7-9PM starting July 6th and will meet at the Anthem TO office.
Jul 8 - Aug 5
Thursdays @ 7pm
The gospel is not just the message we proclaim, it is also the message that shapes our identity, relationships, the nature of the church, mission and everyday life.
As one of the foundational courses in the Porterbrook curriculum (click here for more info on Porterbrook), this is a great opportunity to get a fi rsthand look at what the Porterbrook year of training would look like.
In this hybrid learning model, you'll access curriculum online or in a workbook, meet with a small group of people to discuss what you're learning, and write one small paper to share what God has been teaching you through the class.
Everyone is welcome to participate in this Summer School class, but if you're considering joining Porterbrook in the fall, then we would uniquely love for you to join us for this as well!
Lead: Ryan Hinkle
Meeting Details: This class will meet on Thursdays at 7PM starting July 8th and will meet at the Anthem TO office.
This summer, we're really looking forward to investing in some highly practical training in a few different areas of life. We said at the beginning of 2021 that we want to put a big focus on the "how-to's" of a life of faith, and Summer School is an amazing opportunity to make this happen. We are really excited and expectant for how God will use peoples’ gifts and passions to show us how the Gospel applies to all areas of our lives.
Each of our classes will meet in person (with a Zoom option) primarily at the Anthem TO office to learn and grow together. Classes will begin the week of July 5th.
Registrations for class will close July 1st so use the link below to sign up today!
